Winnipeg English Language Assessment Program (WELARC)
WELARC administers language assessments using the Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test. The assessment measures communicative skills in four areas:  listening, speaking, reading and writing.
 
Entry Program
The ENTRY Program provides settlement orientation for all newcomers to Winnipeg and an introduction to English language and services for people needing to improve their language.

Manitoba Immigrant Safety Services
The Manitoba Immigrants’ Safety Initiative (MISI) is a pilot project funded through the WCB Community Initiatives and Research Program with an aim to prevent injury, death and workplace-related illness for new and existing immigrant workers in Manitoba.
 
Resources for Newcomer Parents in Multiple Languages
Health resources in 8 different languages for newcomers to Canada who are pregnant, new parents or planning a pregnancy.

Employment Services for New Manitobans
The Manitoba government funds agencies to help immigrants find work. These services are free. They teach job-search skills. They may help you get training. Some programs may introduce participants to potential employers.

Services for Immigrants
There are a number of programs and services available to Manitoba immigrants throughout the province.  This website gives information in such areas as health, youth, neighbourhood programs and learning English.

Work in Your Prefession
Professions in Manitoba  may be either regulated or unregulated.  This website will help you with information about your profession and resources available to you.

Law Phone-In and Lawyer Referral Program
The program is operated by CLEA to assist people in finding a lawyer who will provide them with the legal information or services they require.  A member of the public may phone toll-free from anywhere in Manitoba and receive general legal information over the phone.  The service can assist callers in finding appropriate law-related agencies or provide the names of lawyers practicing in the relevant area of law.  The member of the public can be referred to a lawyer who is prepared to provide a free 30 minute consultation. 

If you require legal assistance and wish to speak to someone at the Law Phone-In and Lawyer Referral Program, call 943-2305 or toll free at 1-800-262-8800 (outside Winnipeg).

Go Forth Institute
For those of you who want to start or grow a business, this website offers entrepreneurship and business development training.  There is a cost for all courses and networking services.  

Map of Manitoba
This map of Manitoba pinpoints the various communities throughout the province that offers programs and services that may be of interest to newcomers.  These include:  English classes, settlement services, health clinics, job preparation courses, etc.

A parenting program for parents of children birth to age five.
 
Community Unemployed Help Centre
Community Unemployed Help Centre (CUHC) is a non-profit organization primarily dedicated to providing information, advice and representation to unemployed workers in Manitoba experiencing Employment Insurance problems.

Volunteer Manitoba
As you become more settled in Manitoba, do consider volunteering in your community.  Voluntter Manitoba has listings of volunteer opportunities available, or you could call the organization directly.  Volunteering is a terrific way to meet new people, gain new skills and help your community. 

Credentials Recognition Program
The Manitoba government is working with the Canadian government to assist immigrants in the recognition of their credentials in a timely manner.  They have instituted a streamlined, simplified program to ensure foreign qualifications are assessed and recognized across Canada.
